IMPACT PROTECTORS

MACNA® jackets are equipped with shoulder and elbow protectors and are prepared to place protectors for back and chest. Knee protectors are a standard feature in our pants and jeans and some garments are equipped with hip protectors. All of our R.I.S.C.™ protectors are CE certified.

Our odorised and recyclable impact protectors are developed in-house and a big plus for you in more ways than one. Thanks to the hexagonal structure made of Expanded Thermoplastic Vulcanised Elastomer, the protectors are capable of absorbing and distributing impact forces to keep you safe. E-TPV also raises comfort through its flexibility. The hexagonal structure is ergonomically designed and hollow in the centre to provide breathability – and a great look.

Based on its characteristics and positive feedback about its looks, we translated our impact protectors to an exterior variant:

We’ve also developed a stand-alone back protector in case you prefer it to be close and tight to your body:

LEVELS & SIZES

A garment can be fitted with level 1 or level 2 protectors, depending on which segment you’re going for. Level 2 protectors are thicker and heavier than level 1, but in turn they provide better protection. Both levels of R.I.S.C.™ protectors are interchangeable and separately available, so you can easily scale down or up if you’d like to.

For those who think R.I.S.C.™ level 1 protectors are still too thick and heavy, there is an even thinner and extremely flexible alternative: R.I.S.C.™ FX level 1. These protectors are separately available and can be placed in pockets for knees, elbows and shoulders.

There are two ways to find out which protector is fitted in your garment:

1. Take out one of the protectors. All the info you need is indicated in the protector itself.
2. Look up the model you’ve purchased on our website, scroll down for a bit and it’ll tell you what you need to know under TECHNICAL and subsequently HOMOLOGATION.

R.I.S.C.™ BACK

SINCE 2020

You won’t find chest and back protectors in our garments – with exception of protective jackets such as the Korus and Whizzar – but they are separately available should you fancy extra protection. Make sure to check out the size table if you’re thinking about purchasing a level 2 back protector.

R.I.S.C.™ CHEST

SINCE 2021

The above goes for all R.I.S.C.™ protectors with exception of the chest. This unique protector is only available in level 1 and consists of two separate pieces that automatically interlock after placing them in the designated compartments of your MACNA® jacket and zipping up.

If you’re going to place it for the first time, the following info might be useful:

1. When placing the first piece, first insert the top corner and then the rest.
2. Both pieces are not meant to go into the designated compartment completely. The pieces feature an incision, which is supposed to align and converge with the edge of the compartment.
3. When placing the second piece, first insert the top corner again and then the rest. Make sure the second piece also aligns with the edge of the compartment.

HOW TO REACH

Chances are, you’ve never seen a protector or had one in your hands. Now that we think of it; you might not even know how to reach them. Knowledge that would come in handy in case you need to adjust their position in your new garment, or want to give your old buddy a proper wash.

How to reach a certain protector depends on which garment you have. All possible constructions are listed and explained below.

R.I.S.C.™ KNEES

SINCE 2019

Knee protectors in jeans are accessible from below. Insert your hand into the leg and open the velcro at the bottom of the pocket. These pockets feature multiple levels to enable easy adjustability of the height of the protector. Some jeans are fitted with a Quick Pocket™, which enables the protector to be accessed from the outside.

Knee protectors in pants are accessible from the outside via the Quick Pocket™. Use the zip to open the pocket and gain access to the protector.

If your pants doesn’t have Quick Pockets™, the protectors are accessible from below. Insert your hand into the leg and open the velcro at the bottom of the pocket.

R.I.S.C.™ ELBOWS

SINCE 2019

Elbow protectors in jackets are accessible from the outside via the Quick Pocket™. Use the zip to open the pocket and gain access to the protector. Some of these pockets feature multiple levels to enable easy adjustability of the height of the protector.

If your jacket doesn’t have Quick Pockets™, the protectors are accessible from above. Insert your hand into the arm from the inside of the jacket and open the velcro at the top of the pocket.

R.I.S.C.™ SHOULDERS

SINCE 2019

Shoulder protectors in jackets are accessible from the outside via the Quick Pocket™. Use the zip to open the pocket and gain access to the protector.

If your jacket doesn’t have Quick Pockets™, it might be fitted with pockets that are accessible from the inside of the jacket. Open the velcro of the pocket to gain access to the protector.

If your jacket doesn’t have any pockets, the protectors are fixed by velcro on the inside. Lay the jacket with its back on a flat surface and open the main zip. On the inside at the back, you’ll find another small, horizontal zip.

Open the horizontal zip to reach the back protector pocket. Reach inside and through the pocket to reach the area adjacent to the outer shell. You will now be able to reach the shoulder protectors.
When placing a shoulder protector with velcro, please make sure of the following, which is essential for the fit and your comfort:

1. The protector is placed on the correct side, according to the indication LEFT or RIGHT in the protector.
2. The protector is placed correctly, according to the ARM indication. When done correctly, the outside of the shoulder and shoulder blade at the back are covered.
3. The edge of the velcro of the protector is fixed against the seam of the shoulder.

R.I.S.C.™ FX

SINCE 2024

The thinnest and most flexible interior R.I.S.C.™ protector currently available.

FX protection shapes itself to the shoulder, elbow, or knee to provide as much comfort as possible.

Due to its flatness, it also aids the discreet look of jeans and cargo pants.
